Background
In Rwanda, with each new academic year, universities witness an influx of students, including both local and international scholars pursuing undergraduate and graduate studies. One of the primary requirements for these individuals is suitable accommodation. Recognizing this essential need, there is an opportunity to create a dedicated platform to address the accommodation challenges faced by students. This platform aims to streamline the process of finding and securing suitable rental options for students in Rwanda. By providing a user-friendly and efficient service, we seek to enhance the overall academic experience for both local and international scholars
Problem
In the current rental market in Rwanda, particularly for students, both local and international, there are significant challenges in finding suitable accommodations that meet their budget and location preferences. Moreover, many students prefer shared accommodations, which adds a layer of complexity in finding compatible housemates. The current process is time-consuming, and lacks transparency (with instances of already-rented properties still being listed), leading to frustration and uncertainty for both students, Agents, and landlords.
The current rental market in Rwanda presents several challenges for students:
Lack of Budget-Friendly Options: Students often struggle to find accommodations that meet their budget constraints while being close to their institutions.
Difficulty in Finding Shared Housing: Many students prefer shared living arrangements to reduce costs, but finding compatible housemates is a significant challenge.
Time-Consuming Process: The search for suitable housing is often prolonged, with students having to sift through multiple listings, visit numerous properties, and negotiate with landlords.
Lack of Transparency: Instances of properties being falsely advertised as available, when they are already rented, create frustration and distrust in the rental market.
Inefficient Communication: The communication between students, agents, and landlords is often fragmented, leading to misunderstandings and delays in securing accommodations.
Solution
To address these issues, the solution involves creating a dedicated online platform designed to meet the specific needs of students in the rental market. The key features include:
User-Friendly Search: A powerful search engine that allows students to filter accommodations based on location, budget, and specific needs like proximity to universities or public transport.
Shared Housing Options: A system that facilitates the search for shared accommodations, including a compatibility matching feature to help students find housemates with similar preferences and lifestyles.
Real-Time Availability: A transparent and up-to-date listing system that ensures only available properties are shown, reducing the frustration of false advertisements.
Secure and Efficient Communication: A built-in messaging system that allows for clear and direct communication between students, agents, and landlords, ensuring quicker responses and fewer misunderstandings.
Verified Listings: A verification system to ensure that all listings are genuine and accurately represent the properties, building trust in the platform.
Rently247 aims to simplify and improve the rental experience for students in Rwanda, offering a more efficient, transparent, and student-centric approach to finding housing. It provides a valuable tool for students, agents, and landlords, ultimately creating a more reliable and accessible rental market in the country.
